About Gabby

I’ve been writing poems since I was in middle school, channeling pre-teen angst into ink on paper. I have kept every notebook I’ve written in, and unearth them every time I move house. That girl seems like such a stranger, but so familiar at the same time.

I had the honor of taking a poetry seminar with the late Claudia Emerson while I was in college. Her workshops transformed my poems from clichéd rants to actual poetry. She had the gentlest red pen and could give criticism without breaking a spirit. I will be forever grateful for her advice. The first poem I ever had published was one I workshopped with her.

After my son was born, the thought of researching and submitting to literary magazines was too daunting. I set my writing aside and promised I would get to it…eventually. My new year’s resolution for 2021 was to receive at least 100 rejection letters by the end of the year. They never stop stinging, but I don’t let them deter me. It just means I haven’t found the right home for my work, yet.
